Since my last column, a lot has changed in Westminster.
We have a new Prime Minister and a new Government in place, and we have seen the markets stabilise.
I am delighted to have been asked to continue in my role as Minister for Farming, Food and Fisheries in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs where I will continue to back British farming and support our rural economy.
After a busy week in Westminister it was great to spend last Saturday morning out with Cllr Stuart Bestwick and Cllr Martin Smith in Ravenshead talking to residents! Thank you to everyone who took the time to engage with us about local and national issues. Please get in touch with me if I can help you with any issues or concerns
I have been contacted by residents querying information put out by the Ashfield Independent Group in a campaign leaflet regarding plans for a new health centre in Hucknall. The NHS have not confirmed any news about a site for the health centre and I have asked them for a meeting to discuss their latest plans and any updates I can share with you.
I am proud to be your MP and as someone who is born and bred in Sherwood, I will always champion our area. East Midlands Railway (EMR) is to install three ‘Smart Kiosks’ at stations across Gedling borough, which it says will make it simpler and easier for its customers to buy the cheapest fares.
The new machines, will allow customers to buy advance and walk-up tickets as a printed barcode instead of the old-fashioned orange paper tickets.
The self-serve machines issue traditional walk-up fares to customers whilst offering a full range of national Railcard and local discounts.

The new kiosks will also allow the sale of Advance Purchase fares for those customers who are not travelling immediately.
The machines are built to utilise Smart Ticketing functionality too – allowing customers to purchase a ticket and collect them from the machine.
The rail firm said customers can also easily keep up-to-date by using the kiosk’s full timetable enquiry software which provides information on their next train and any difference in cost between their chosen train and any in the next 90 minutes.
Later this year, the Smart Kiosks will also be upgraded to allow purchased tickets to be applied directly to a Smartcard and some Season Ticket products.
Simon Pready, commerical director at East Midlands Railway, said: “We want to offer customers as much flexibility as possible when purchasing tickets and that’s why the introduction of these new Smart Kiosks is great news.
“As well as other features, they offer customers a full range of eTickets and the same fare offers that they would otherwise access online. We hope our regional customers enjoy the benefits of using them when they are introduced across our regional network in the next few months.”

The Revival Coffee Co, based on Front Street, posted about their decision on social media.
They wrote: “I am heartbroken having to write this post, but I think given the current financial climate you probably have a good idea what am about to say.
“This will be Revival’s last weekend open. We’ve tried really hard to fight the rising costs, bills and cost of living crisis but as a small independent we have no choice but to close our doors.
“This Saturday (5) and Sunday (6) we will serve up all of our menu, coffee and sweet treat favourites, as well as the one and only weekend of bottomless brunches to send us off in style.
They added: “We’ve really loved having you. Hopefully will see some of your lovely faces this weekend so we can say goodbye properly.”

The director of a timber supply business misused the Bounce Back Loans scheme during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lee Mankelow, 42, of Arnold, deceptively claimed £50,000 allegedly to support his timber supply business, and then paid it to a former director of the company.
The government scheme helped businesses that were facing hardship during Covid-19 to borrow between £2,000 and £50,000 at a guaranteed low interest rate.
Mankelow was the director of timber product traders Wolf Timber Ltd. The company liquidated its profit in December 2020, before their insolvency led to an investigation by the Insolvency Service.
The investigation concluded that Mankelow’s company applied for the Bounce Back Loan after the company saw an increase in online business during the Covid lockdowns in June 2020. Mankelow then transferred the full £50,000 that was intended to support the business to a former director of the company.
The investigation into the timber establishment further concluded that the loan was not used to pay the wages, bonuses, dividends, and expenses of the former director, as Mankelow had claimed.
Mankelow was then disqualified from his position as director and is now prevented from directly or indirectly being involved in the promotion, formation, or management of a company, without the permission of the court.
Tom Phillips, Assistant Director of Investigation and Enforcement Services for the Insolvency Service, said: “Bounce Back Loans were put in place to provide vital support to help viable businesses through the pandemic.
“Mankelow completely abused the government-backed loans to further his own interests, which was totally unacceptable.
“Mankelow’s ban should serve as a stark warning to other directors who may have misused financial support during the pandemic that we have the ability to bring your actions to account and remove you from the corporate arena.”
Morrisons is set to close 132 McColl’s stores around the UK, with around 1,300 jobs at risk. The supermarket confirmed it would take over the convenience store earlier this year, after the company fell into administration.
McColl’s was bought out by the chain in a £190 million deal, but Morrisons has now announced plans to close more than 100 ‘loss making’ stores in an aim to ‘regenerate the business’.
Stores will be closing up and down the country – including two in Gedling borough.
The shops at St Wilfreds Square in Calverton and on Carlton Hill have been earmarked for closure.
The supermarket group said 55 of the 132 stores selected for closure include Post Office counters, like on Carlton Hill, and will shut next year, following the busy Christmas period.
Once the McColl’s store closes, the nearest Post Office branches for residents living on Carlton Hill will be in Porchester Road, in Mapperley, and Oakdale Road, in Bakersfield.
