A suspect has been arrested after a man was seriously assaulted in Arnold.
Police were called to High Street shortly before 1.10pm this afternoon (Thursday).
The victim, a man aged in his 50s, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A male suspect has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.
No knife was involved in this incident.
Inspector Vanessa Wake, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are currently working to understand what happened in the moments before, during and after this incident and would like to speak to anyone who heard or saw what happened.”
Anyone with any information about what happened is asked to call 101 quoting incident 340 or 22 June 2023.

This is Gedling is a Not for Profit (NfP) community initiative that depends on the support of advertisers, contributors, readers and donors to continue to bring FREE borough news and general interest content to the all 46 square miles and 120k residents of Gedling borough.
An activities hub featuring a cinema, a maze and laser tag based unlawfully on greenbelt land has been refused consent to retrospectively change the use of its land.
The land, off Lime Lane near Arnold and Calverton, has been used for several recreational activities over the past four years.
The site is operated by Back2Basics (B2B) and Into The Forest.
Combined, the two organisations provide a seasonal maize maze, bushcraft workshops, a forestry school, outdoor cinema, axe throwing, laser tag and air rifle and crossbow shooting. The land has also hosted music festivals.
However, a festival in July last year prompted complaints to Gedling Borough Council about noise, anti-social behaviour and highway safety.
Investigations found no change of use for the agricultural land had been sought through official planning processes.
The council launched planning enforcement action last year and began discussions with the landowner – a local farming family – to find a solution.
The operators were told they would be allowed to temporarily use the land for 28 days in one year without planning consent.
However, having on-site equipment there permanently meant they had exceeded this 28-day by January 28 each year.
It led to an official but retrospective planning application being submitted in November last year asking to use the wider land for these purposes.
Those plans were debated in April but deferred by councillors in the hope of negotiations to find a way of using the land.
Upon returning to the council’s planning committee on Wednesday (June 21), however, it was refused permission.
The April meeting focused on buildings and structures erected on the land for various different activities.
It was hoped they could be removed in order to protect the character of the countryside.
Wednesday’s meeting heard two containers had been removed and many still remained.
But the applicant had told the authority it plans to take steps to reduce the impact of its wider site.
Ed Hammond, the landowner and applicant, said: “[The activities] make the most of the natural environment, which is what attracts so many businesses to use them.
“Not only have we taken on-board suggestions from the council, but operators have removed many items from the site.
“B2B and Into The Forest want this to remain a natural setting for the activities they provide.”
He added: “These are local businesses providing jobs not only on the site but in the wider area.”
Councillors on the committee debated whether to refuse the retrospective application.
Cllr Jane Walker (Con), who represents Calverton, said: “This outdoor activity centre is an amazing asset to Gedling and the wider area.
“It offers fantastic outdoor pursuits, the benefits these activities bring to children and adults of all ages include good exercise, fresh air, socialising, learning new skills and looking after the environment.
“The company contributes as a local employer.”
But Cllr Paul Wilkinson (Lab), who called for the deferral in April, said: “I thought there was a solution to be found.
“I’m genuinely sorry that appears not to have been possible. Unfortunately, I still can’t vote for what’s in front of us.”
A local resident also spoke against the plans and said nearby properties had been “severely impacted” by events at the site.
In a report, the authority agreed and said the unauthorised change of use “introduced a potential source of noise and disturbance”.
And it said its changed usage has “resulted in undue harm to the landscape” of the area.
The planning department recommended refusal at the meeting and this was backed by the committee.
The meeting then heard planning enforcement will be launched against operators for running the site without planning permission.
The enforcement – which includes a notice requiring the ending of all unauthorised activities on the site – could lead to court action if not followed.
It will require the reversal of the change of use on the land and the ending of outdoor pursuits, cinema and leisure activities.
It will also require all structures and on-site infrastructure to be removed from the land.
Following the meeting, the applicants confirmed they are appealing the refusal of planning permission to the Government’s planning inspectorate.
If this appeal is successful, it would grant permission for the use of the greenbelt site and protect the businesses from planning enforcement and potential closure.
It was only last month that Paviors won the Notts, Lincs & Derby final in a tight match against Dronfield RUFC on a sunny evening in Newark.
However during the off season, like most sporting clubs, they have immediately started to plan for the season ahead.
Arnold‘s Paviors have announced that home grown back-rower Phil Eggleshaw has been appointed as Head Coach.
Phil’s new coaching philosophy will focus on the development of players through enjoyment so that training and playing are fun.
Pat Billam, Paviors Director of Rugby said that Phil was appointed to lead the development of both skills and fitness at the club going forward.
Pat said “I am delighted to have Phil as our newly appointed Head Coach and I am very much looking forward to his valued input at both senior and junior levels”
Phil Eggleshaw will be joined by last seasons Attack Coach & Academy Coach Jonty Green, now taking on the role of Assistant Coach for the 23/24 season.

Jonty has been a member of the first XV since 2010, playing Scrum-Half for the majority of this time with highlights including the promotion season of 2018/19 and winning the NLD cup on numerous occasions, most recently this season just gone, as well as representing NLD Seniors.
Last year Jonty was Head Coach of a very successful academy team winning the NLD plate as well as being the highest ranked team in the region for the National Cup, making it through to the third round of the National Cup (final 32 in the country).

Two people were arrested after police discovered a stolen 4×4 abandoned in the grounds of Newstead Abbey.
Officers were called at around 3pm on Sunday (18) when it was seen travelling at speed along Diamond Avenue, Sutton-in-Ashfield.
The vehicle was spotted around half-an-hour later near Derby Road and followed towards Annesley.
It was abandoned a short time later after driving into the Newstead Abbey estate.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested a short time later on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, theft of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.
An 18-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
Both were later released on bail.
PC Joshua Gibbons, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I am pleased this pursuit was brought to a safe conclusion and that we were able to bring two suspects into custody.
“Driving in this way is extremely dangerous and will always generate a very strong police response.”
A cheerleading champion is looking to boost her medal haul next year after securing a place at one of the world’s biggest competitions.
Léshay Bravo, known as Shay, was born in Nottingham and on leaving secondary school attended Redhill Academy Sixth Form in 2021 where she studied for her A levels.
In April 2022, whilst still studying, she became an internationally recognised gold medal athlete when her squad came first for England at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida as part of Team England Cheer.
In her most recent competition, Shay competed with her team ‘Ammunition’ at this year’s Legacy Cheer and Dance Live Your Legacy International Championships 2023 where Shay and her team became Cheerleading Worlds bid winners as they won a ‘bid’, which is the Teams invitation to compete again at Worlds in Florida in 2024.
Redhill Academy Head of DT Faculty Rebecca Davies was full of praise for Shay and her achievements.
She said: “I am so pleased Le’Shay has been honoured with a bid to Worlds. Le’Shay has shown a vast amount of dedication to being among the best student-athletes.
“The level of performance required to maintain excellent grades at A Level, alongside regular and intense cheer training, cannot be underestimated.
“She has always taken success in her stride and deserves to reap the rewards of her efforts. Well done Le’Shay – you have earned this.”

Shay’s mother Lorraine Mcpherson-Bravo said Shay has been cheerleading since the age of 9, almost 10 years. She is a member of the Coventry Dynamite Cheerleading Club and has competed both nationally and internationally with her teams.
She said: “Shay is actually in two Coventry Dynamite Teams, Lady Grenades and Ammunition and as Team Captain for Lady Grenades, they competed at the biggest cheerleading competition in the world, NCA, in Dallas Texas in both February 2022 and 2023. This year they came 2nd.
“She has also represented Team England in Orlando Florida in April 2022 and 2023 and both years she has been the joint Team Captain.
“They came first – gold medalists in 2022, resulting in them having to move up cheer levels when they competed again in 2023.
“Prior to leaving to compete she was interviewed at her last training session by BBC Newsround, which was aired earlier this year (2023). They came 3rd, Bronze medalists this year.
“Shay is also a powered athlete for Powernation, Represented Rebel but had to withdraw due to the organisation’s rules surrounding competitors.
“Shay is a representative for BCD and featured in an article in ‘Cheer From Head to Toe’.”
Legacy Cheer and Dance is an official bid provider for the 2024 Cheerleading Worlds and 2024 Dance Worlds. Their goal in providing bids is to support teams who are truly ready to go in terms of skills and financial preparedness so that families and athletes from the sport are not lost when they can’t afford to continue.

Across Gedling our ‘locals’ and their customers have been playing an essential role in supporting a wide range of charities and one of these is The Nags Head in Woodborough.
Gedling Eye caught up with Clive & Kim Wisdom, Landlord and Landlady at the Nags Head in Woodborough as the couple and their customers have helped to support two charitable causes in the local area by raising £4000 between May 2022 and May 2023.
The couple said “Firstly, we worked with the Nottinghamshire Hospitals Charity (NHC) to raise £1000 specifically for Hayward House, a specialist palliative care unit in the grounds of the City Hospital.

“It was great to meet Joanne Burr (the NHC Corporate Fundraising Manager) on June 1 for the cheque presentation at the Nags.
“We have been supporting various NHC causes over the last few years and it was fantastic to do so again”
But the fundraising did not stop there as Clive and Kim also assisted the former Mayor of Gedling to raise £3000 for the Children’s Cancer Ward at the Nottingham City Hospital.
Clive and Kim said “It was fantastic to work with Peter, his wife Sandra, and their team, who were very generous with their time and showed true dedication to the cause.
“For example, they supported us in one of the most useful ways by supplying fantastic prizes for our fundraising raffles and even came up with their own fundraising games, such as “Guess the name of the Monkey” which was a hit last summer.
