Nottingham City Transport has expanded its network from today, (3) to serve the new Chase Farm development in Gedling.
Chase Farm is now served by an extension of NCT’s Sky Blue 45 service, providing a 10 minute Monday to Saturday daytime service to Mapperley and the City Centre.
Sunday daytime buses operate every 20 minutes, with a half hourly service every night and last buses back from the City at midnight on Mondays to Saturdays.
Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT Head of Marketing said, “We are delighted to bring a bus service to the new Chase Farm development, providing a frequent service to both Mapperley and Nottingham with single fares just £2 as NCT continues to participate in the government’s fare cap scheme until the end of October”.
Sky Blue 45 operates with NCT’s low emission bio-gas double deck buses, which come with free Wi-Fi and on board USB charging too.
NCT has been supported by Nottinghamshire County Council, who have installed new bus stops in the Gedling area for the extended route to Chase Farm and the new route for Red 44/A buses in the area.
Red 44/A buses now use Shelford Road and Arnold Lane in both directions, with a new bus stop on Arnold Lane to replace a former stop on Besecar Avenue towards the City.
The changes to buses in Gedling are part of a wider revision to services from today, which includes stop changes in the City Centre and Arnold Town Centre and revised timetables on Lime and Purple Lines, and Navy 49.
Full details of the changes are available at www.nctx.co.uk/servicechange and new timetables are viewable in the NCTX Buses app and website.

A Gedling MP has revealed that no schools within his constituency are facing mandatory closures due to unsafe concrete, following a nationwide directive highlighting potential risks.
Some 104 schools and colleges are now scrambling to put emergency measures in place in time for the return after the summer holidays after being told by the Department for Education (DfE) to partially or fully close buildings.
It is because of fears concrete used in the construction of some school buildings could collapse.

However, the Government has not revealed the 104 education facilities that are affected.
RAAC is a lightweight building material used from the 1950s up to the mid-1990s, but now assessed to be at risk of collapse.
Gedling MP Tom Randall last night posted an update on his Facebook page in an effort to reassure parents in the area.
He wrote: “Parents across Gedling may be concerned at the reported problems with Aerated Concrete in school buildings but I am pleased to confirm that no school in Gedling will be closing as a result of this issue.
“It is worth noting that local councils have been working with schools and the DfE to assess and correct any issues for several months and no school in Nottinghamshire will be closing because of RAAC.”
The DfE has been considering RAAC as a potential issue since late 2018 but the timing of the decision to issue guidance just days before the start of term has angered unions.
National Education Union general secretary Daniel Kebede said: “It is absolutely disgraceful, and a sign of gross Government incompetence, that a few days before the start of term, 104 schools are finding out that some or all of their buildings are unsafe and cannot be used.
“To add insult to injury the Government states in its guidance that it will not be covering the costs of emergency temporary accommodation or additional transport.”
A new gaming and entertainment business is to open their store in Arnold’s AMP today (2).
Following a number of proposed locations falling through, Dice and Balls, run by Phire and Zoe, did not give up on their dream and officially collected the keys to the final vacant unit at the AMP last month.
Dice & Balls is a CIC (a non-profit Community Interest Company) that is all about creating inclusive and fun experiences for the benefit of the local community.
Arnold regulars will have seen the Dice and Balls team performing their circus skills around Arnold at various events recently as well as hosting a fundraiser last month for Arnold Foodbank which raised over £190.
Phire said “We won’t be serving food and drinks due to the proximity of other food outlets, and are happy for people to bring in their own food and drinks.
“We are a community interest company, so the profits will be used to benefit the community, such as putting on free or low cost events so that anyone can attend. We are seeing this as a way of helping others that struggle with isolation for what ever reason.
“We are both passionate about being fully inclusive and offering a safe environment for everyone, regardless of challenges that we all face in life.”
Phire has been a Youth Worker, has run her own business for ten-years teaching Circus Skills and Co-ordination and most recently has worked with adults of all ages with learning disabilities and challenging behaviours at the NHS.
As well as juggling, Phire brings her skills with Poi, Fire Poi, Diablo, and Flower Sticks to Dice & Balls.
Zoe is a board game and Roleplaying Game geek, and proud of it. She has been involved in the Roleplaying world since the 1980s and has run many, many games both in person and online.
She became a stilt walker almost by accident after having a go one time, and discovering she had a knack for it.
The CIC will join six independent businesses currently open to the public at the AMP – 1 Market Place Tea Rooms, Cleo’s Deli, Arnold Post Office, CATDOG – an animal products store, Taste First – a wine and food tasting experience and Skin Solace – a vegan beauty brand.
The CIC will be advertising Circus Skills availability for workshops, parties, and corporate team building in due course.
Further information including contact details for Dice and Balls can be found on their website HERE.

Gran Turismo is based on the unbelievable true story of a team of unlikely underdogs – a struggling working-class gamer (Archie Madekwe), a failed former racecar driver (David Harbour), and an idealistic motorsport executive (Orlando Bloom). Together, they risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world.
Gran Turismo is an inspiring, thrilling, and action-packed story that proves that nothing is impossible when you’re fuelled from within.
Our screening on Saturday 16 September at 7.30pmwill include a recorded Q&A with director Dylan Howitt, Allan Brown, hosted by Felicity Beckett.
Textile artist Allan Brown spends seven years making a dress by hand just from the fibre of locally foraged stinging nettles. This is ‘hedgerow couture’, the greenest of slow fashion but also his medicine. It’s how Allan survives the passing of his wife, leaving him and their four children bereft, and how he finds a beautiful way to honour her.
Stunningly filmed by award-winning documentary maker Dylan Howitt, The Nettle Dress follows Allan’s journey through seasons and years, foraging, spinning, weaving, cutting and sewing the cloth, before finally sharing a healing vision of the dress back in the woods where the nettles were picked, worn by one of his daughters.
A labour of love in the truest sense, The Nettle Dress is a modern-day fairytale and hymn to the healing power of nature and slow craft.

Roadwork nightmare continues for Netherfield residents
Who arranged the recent roadworks in Netherfield? Frank Spencer?
Nobody deems to know what is going on. Buses were to divert and then didn’t. Victoria Road was meant to shut between the gym and up to the car garage – and this hasn’t happened.
Instead one section is closed and cars are cheating the diversions by using the pedestrian area by the Co-op – and travelling at high speeds. Someone is going to get killed!
Notts County Council has no love for Netherfield. We have two dangerous crossings that are a death trap and the craziest set of roadworks. I see this hell going on for months!
They wouldn’t let something like this happen in posh Burton Joyce or Mapperley! – It only seems the poorer areas suffer!

MP is jumping on bandwagons to avoid being ousted
It is somewhat ironic that Tom Randall MP can find time to come to Burton Joyce and stand in front of the Old School Building for a politically motivated photo-shoot, but cannot find the time to meet the parish council, nor attend an open public meeting at which almost 200 people attended.
Sitting in an extremely marginal seat, he recognises that he will be ousted next year and is seeking any bandwagon to jump on.

Sad and slow death of the high street
How sad it is to see Wilkos going out of business
Wilkos has been around as far back as I remember.
I enjoyed visiting the store in Carlton Square and would also pop into the Arnold store when visiting the town. I always bought something.
I blame stiff competition from Poundland, B&M, and Amazon who I hold responsible for the demise of Wilkos.
We are slowly seeing the death of the high street I grew up with.
The days of going ‘up town’ to do some shopping are surely numbered.
All young people across Notts will soon be able to purchase cheaper bus and tram tickets following the launch of a new scheme.
Nottinghamshire U22 aims to support all young people by improving access to travel for work, leisure and study.
Tickets will be available from Sunday, September 3 to purchase online, at travel centres, via operator apps and at tram stop machines. Purchasing options vary by bus or tram company so passengers are advised to check with their operator before attempting to travel.
To qualify people must be between ages 19 and 21 and have proof of a Nottinghamshire address.
Councillor Angela Kandola, Nottingham City Council portfolio holder for Transport, said: “Nottingham is a young city, and we want all our young people to be able to access everything this amazing city has to offer. It’s great that students receive subsidised travel while they are studying, but other young people will now benefit from these prices too with Nottinghamshire U22.
“When we were developing our Bus Service Improvement Plan we wanted to think holistically about our transport offer and improving access for young people is a key part of this. It’s a difficult time to be a young person, the pandemic had a major impact on this generation’s access to employment, study and leisure at such a critical time in their lives – improving access to travel opens up so many opportunities, whilst also boosting the use of bus services, and I’m proud we’re able to support that.”
Councillor Neil Clarke MBE, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We are pleased to be partnering with Nottingham City Council to offer young people between the ages of 19 and 22 a cheaper way to travel across the county and city.
“The new ticket means that young people will be able to get around by bus and tram for the same price as students, helping them to access employment, education, leisure and many more opportunities for a reduced price.
“We know that not everyone between the ages of 19 and 22 is a student and while the ticket offers for students are great news for those in education, we wanted to widen the offer to everyone between the ages of 19 and 22.
“This initiative is just one of the ways that we’re making improvements to public transport in Nottinghamshire through our Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), and I look forward to hearing about the benefits it will undoubtedly have for young people using it.”
Funding for the scheme was secured by a bid from both Nottingham City and County councils to the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) – a grant from central government to improve bus services across the city region.
Under 22 products will be available until March 2025, at which point the scheme will be reviewed.
Robin Hood 19 – 21 season tickets are also available at the same price as the Robin Hood student product. Robin Hood Pay-As-You-Go option will be available later in the autumn.
