Police say they will continue to crackdown on shoplifters after two wanted suspects were arrested in connection with reported thefts from Gedling stores.

Officers detained a 44-year-old man at his home in Bilborough during the early hours of today (9) following thefts from stores in the borough between September 30 and October 31.

Stores in Stapleford and Bilborough were also targeted.

It follows the previous arrest of a 40-year-old man, on October 31, in connection with the incidents.

Inspector Mark Stanley, neighbourhood policing inspector responsible for local policing in the Gedling borough area, said: “We know what an impact shoplifting can have on our local communities and businesses and we remain committed to tackling and reducing shop theft as one of our local policing priorities.

“As part on our ongoing work we are continuing to work closely with retail partners to support them, providing crime prevention advice, as well as locating and arresting suspects. Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and can have a significant impact on retailers both financially and emotionally.

“We continue to treat shop theft seriously and we will deal robustly with shop theft perpetrators.

“Our proactive work to combat this issue, as well as antisocial behaviour, is ongoing. This will include targeted operations in hot-spot areas, including the Victoria Retail Park in Netherfield, increased patrols and working closely with businesses and Gedling Borough Council to reduce retail crime.”
