The green light has been given to create a new children’s play area in Gedling Country Park thanks to a £50,000 funding boost.
The money has been awarded by Wren’s FCC Community Action Fund after a successful joint bid by Gedling Borough Council and Friends of Gedling Country Park Group.

The money from Wren, along with an additional £70,000 from Gedling Borough Council, will be used to create two play areas – one play area will be aimed at toddlers and an adjacent one will cater for older children.
With funding now in place, it is hoped that both new play areas could be open to the public by next Spring.
Terry Lock, Chairman of the Friends of Gedling Country Park believes the new play area will have a positive impact on the whole community.
He said: “We’ve had an overwhelming response from the public in support of our application, with over 1,200 online followers specifically for this project, and letters of support from some high profile people within the local community. It’s fantastic that WREN has awarded this money and we’re really looking forward to the children’s play area taking shape over the next few months.”
Councillor Peter Barnes, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said that the new park was just one of many exciting developments planned for Gedling Country Park.
He said: “This is great news for the group who’ve worked tirelessly to get this funding and we’re delighted for them. The council will also be contributing £70,000 to the older children’s play area and we’ve expanded the car park, we’re installing toilets and there will be a portable café outlet in the near future. All of these exciting developments will make Gedling Country Park an even better destination for people to visit.”
