Work to create £20m of improvements to parts of Gedling borough will begin in April, it has been announced.
The Greater Carlton Regeneration Plan was launched back in 2024 by Gedling Borough Council and the new Greater Carlton Neighbourhood Board and has been described as ‘the most ambitious, community-led transformation programme the area has seen in a generation’.
Developed as part of the Government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods and the wider Pride in Place programme, the scheme will deliver positive improvements for more than 53,000 residents in the designated area.
The council and Town Board say the plan has been shaped by extensive community engagement, with hundreds of residents contributing through surveys, workshops, school discussions and business engagement.
Investment is to be balanced across Greater Carlton, while providing targeted support in areas facing the greatest challenges, including parts of Netherfield, Carlton Hill and Cavendish.
The plan will also recognise and build on the area’s strong industrial, cultural and natural heritage.

Would like to see some of the underused parking reduced from Carlton Square and more connectivity, a walkway and crossing, from the old volunteer pub to the corner where the pizza shop is. Also the empty lot by the volunteer and the one by the Tesco car park need developing asap.
Carlton was listed by the Government to receive funding, now GBC have appeared to have formed a new town called Greater Carlton, that includes Gedling, Netherfield and Colwick, what next Greater Greater Carlton to include Newstead, Calverton, Arnold, Burton Joyce and Mapperley?
Utter tripe. You spent nowt on Carlton Square, a pittance of what originally was 270k, then it went down and down and down, all they got was a useless carpark and new sign. Station road had some stucco on that side but left the awful signage there. Urgh! This will soon become an eyesore blackboard. Ive left Carlton after 57 years. Fed up of the graffiti, drug dealing and the persistent smell of weed wherever you are. Its rapidly declining and turning ugly. Look at Tesco’s waste of space carpark. Just gives the smack-heads a rain shelter. Ugly! The roads are an embarrassment to you. Dave is right, you know too full well GBC are gonna swindle Carlton out of a heap for Arnold, they’ve done it for Nether-field. It’s Carltons, given for Carlton, not to be shared. Netherfield over the years has had all manner of stuff thrown at it…a parks been given a makeover twice, They never looked after it, the whole if Victoria road was resurfaced. The money is Carltons so butt out of trying to steal it!
