Hallowe’en comes early to farm in Linby as pumpkin crop goes on sale

Trick or treaters can get their hands on Hallowe’en pumpkins three weeks early from Linby’s Brooke Farm thanks to a healthy combination of a wet early summer and a sunny September this year.

‘Mars’ pumpkins are available at the farm’s shop for £1 each along with the larger ‘Charmed’ variety at £3 each, both of which have been grown on the farm or on Nottinghamshire County Council land in Skegby.

Ian Holland, the farm’s manager, said: “We usually have pumpkins ready for around a week before Hallowe’en, so it is very early to start selling this popular ghoulish vegetable.

“It’s been a good year for growing pumpkins as there has been plenty of sunshine and rain to encourage them to grow to a good size quickly.”

The farm shop offers a range of home-grown produce for sale including free range eggs, seasonal vegetables, salad and fruit, flowers and plants along with locally-sourced products such as bread, milk, preserves, pickles, cakes and biscuits.

Produce grown at Brooke farm is sold at the farm shop in Main Street, Linby, and is open Monday to Thursday 8am to 3.45pm, Friday 8am to 3.15pm and Saturday 8am to 3pm.
