The playground behind Papplewick Village Hall is set for a major makeover, with work now under way on the £100,000 refurbishment.
Construction has started on improvements to the QEII playground on Linby Lane, which will provide new play facilities for children in the village.
The project is being funded by a £100,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation.
Work on the playground is expected to take around five weeks, with the refurbishment due to be completed by mid-November.
Cllr Carolyn Hesketh, chair of Papplewick Parish Council, welcomed the start of the project.
She said: “It’s great to see our vision becoming a reality. We’re grateful for the support from FCC Communities Foundation.”
FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation which provides grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund, supported by FCC Environment.
Cheryl Raynor, grant manager at FCC Communities Foundation, said: “It’s fantastic to see construction beginning on the QEII playground refurbishment.
“This project will be a wonderful asset for local families, providing high-quality play opportunities and a welcoming space for the whole community to enjoy.
“We are proud to have supported the project and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on children, families and residents in Papplewick for many years to come.”
An official opening event is planned for Sunday, December 6, once all the work has been completed, with the whole community invited to attend.
