A high street bakery giant is due to take over a former restaurant site in Arnold this autumn.
Signage for a new Greggs has been displayed at an Esso petrol station in Mansfield Road, near Arnold, right by the Leapool roundabout in Redhill.
The former Banyan Tree Indian restaurant site, which closed at the end of June 2026, is set to be used the house the new spot, confirmed by Motor Fuel Group (MFG), a large independent forecourt operator.
Greggs has said its new location is due to open in October and will be operated by MFG, as its franchise partner.
A separate planning application in Gedling Borough Council’s planning portal suggested a new drive-through facility could be made on site.
MFG’s plans were approved by the authority in February 2026 for a new drive-through lane and order point to be made for the restaurant building, but the operator lodged an update in August, removing the drive-through aspect in favour of extra parking spaces.
The council’s leader, Councillor John Clarke (Lab), told the Local Democracy Reporting Service he welcomes the job prospects the new site will offer.
He said: “Often these jobs, they’ve got a good career [ladder], people get into it and work hard.
“It might start somebody there, where they start in the kitchen and finish up as a managing director – Greggs hasn’t grown to the size it has without doing some good.
“I was listening on the news of the low opportunities to get jobs, so anything that brings jobs or a chance of jobs then we’ve got to welcome it.
“I think it’ll flourish. There was the restaurant there that’d been there for some years, and it’s a nice, safe area – it’s not going to bother anybody, so let’s have it.”
A Gregg’s spokesperson said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Arnold in October operated by our franchise partner, MFG.
“We look forward to welcoming Greggs fans and new customers to come try our range of tasty bakes, hot drinks and sweet treats.”
