Motorists in Gedling are set to face a fresh round of roadworks this month as Nottinghamshire County Council pushes ahead with its record-breaking £181.25 million highways improvement programme.
Three major resurfacing schemes are planned across the borough during August, including work on Foxwood Lane, Main Street and Bank Hill in Woodborough, and Gedling Road in Arnold. The Gedling Road project will be carried out in two phases, covering both Arnold North and Arnold South.
The works form part of the council’s wider effort to improve road conditions across Nottinghamshire, with roads being prepared for future surface dressing treatments designed to extend their lifespan.
It comes as the county’s summer surface dressing programme continues at more than 70 locations, while a new micro-asphalt programme also gets underway this month.
Micro-asphalt is a preventative treatment that adds a thin protective layer over existing road surfaces, helping to stop water getting into the road structure and reducing the risk of potholes and cracks developing. More than 150 roads across Nottinghamshire are expected to be treated before autumn.
Alongside the major resurfacing projects, repair teams supported by the council’s new JCB Pothole Pro machines will carry out patching works on Redhill Road and Campion Street in Arnold, as well as Rigg Lane in Ravenshead.
The latest programme follows resurfacing works completed in July on Arnold Lane, Freda Avenue, and Shearing Hill/Main Road.
Councillor Bert Bingham, Nottinghamshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, said: “We are continuing to make significant progress on improving roads across Gedling, with another three major schemes planned for August alongside a range of additional repairs and preventative maintenance works.
“This year’s record highways investment has enabled us to tackle more roads than ever before, helping to create smoother, safer journeys for residents, businesses and visitors.”
Residents are being warned to expect some disruption while the works are carried out, although the council says the upgrades will provide long-term benefits for road users.
Meanwhile, Via East Midlands will continue year-round maintenance work, including drain and gully cleansing, tree inspections and surface repairs.
