The promotion states Heineken is giving away free kegs in celebration of its 140th Anniversary, and encourages recipients to share the message in exchange for free beer.

The statement published on social media by Heineken UK

The brewer was quick to tell customers that the message was a hoax.

In a statement on social media, they said: “The promotion states Heineken is giving away free kegs, and encourages recipients to share the message. This is a scam and not sanctioned by Heineken – we have reported it to Action Fraud.”

Paul Roth from Arnold was one of our readers who received the scam message.

“I was disappointed it was a scam. I fancied some free beer to enjoy in the sunshine.

“It’s quite convincing, but don’t share it with people. I’ve had it twice now.”
