Volunteers announce plans to bring back Gedling Gala

A team of volunteers in Gedling are calling on the local community to back their bid to get a popular event back on the calendar.

The annual Gedling Village Family Gala last took place back in 2016 and hundreds of families from across the borough would descend on Willow Park to enjoy the large selection of stalls,

But following the retirement of the committee that organised the event and a lack of success in finding replacements, the Gala was cancelled this summer for the first time in its forty year history.

Now a small team of volunteers are hoping the local community will show their support and join a new group looking to stage the event next year.

To get things moving, an AGM is taking place next Monday (September 18) and those interested in lending a hand with next year’s event are invited to attend.

The AGM will take place at Gedling Memorial Hall at 7.30pm

Rick Wilson, who is chairing the new Gedling Village Family gala, hopes people in the local community will come along to show their support.

He told Gedling Eye: “We want people to come along with their ideas and see what can be done.

“A new organising group needs to be established with help from the last committee and to try a different format. Funding is already available to get things moving.

“All the old Gala contacts for stalls, amusements and performers are available – so come on and give it a go”
