Two suspected copper thieves were caught after a police drone tracked them across a Linby building site before guiding officers straight to their location.
Police were called to a site off the A611 Annesley Road, near Linby, at around 7.30pm on Tuesday, August 18, after an alarm was triggered.
When officers arrived, a drone sweep of the area spotted two men walking around inside the closed site.
As the pair tried to flee, a police dog handler was sent in while the drone operator watched from above, relaying their movements to officers on the ground.
The suspects then ran directly into the path of pursuing officers and were arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Police also recovered a length of copper cable, along with a balaclava, glove and tool believed to have been used during the incident.
Corey Barber, 22, of Silverhill Close, Nottingham, has since been charged with theft.
Connor Sim, 26, of no fixed address, has also been charged with theft.
Both men have been released on bail and are due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on September 15.
PC Dan Armstrong, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Burglary and theft in all their forms are invasive crimes.
“A police dog and drone combined to locate the suspects as they attempted to flee the area.
“We’ve now been able to secure criminal charges against two men in connection with this break-in.”
