An RBS spokesperson said: “Many more customers are choosing to do their banking using mobile and online services over traditional branch counters.

The bank, 73 per cent owned by taxpayers, said it has seen a “dramatic shift” in the way customers bank, with more using mobile and online over traditional branch counters.

Transactions in branches have fallen by 43 per cent since 2010, according to the company.

The spokesman for RBS added: “As customers change the way they bank with us, we must change the way we serve them.

“The role of the branch is fast moving to a centre for advice, away from basic transactions.

“While the branch will still be a core part of our offering to customers, inevitably some branches will have to close.

“We know that some of our customers prefer to do their everyday banking face to face and we will help them with the alternative ways to bank in their community through our Community Bankers and NatWest or Royal Bank of Scotland TechXperts.”

  1. This is a bloody joke! Not all of us have phone that go online or use the internet. I’ll have to go miles now. I thought the taxpayers owned this? How can they close if WE (the taxpayer) don’t want them to.

  2. Furious! We lose ANOTHER cash machine and bank. What about the effect on our high street? Danielle’s discounts gone and now another empty unit. Nevo high street used to be great. Government should do something about this.
