Arrests after campaigners try to stop bailiffs trying to evict cancer sufferer from home
From Gedling Eye 18/07/2015

Police arrested five people after clashing with campaigners attempting to prevent bailiffs who planned on evicting a Carlton resident suffering from cancer.
Tom Crawford, 64, of Fearn Chase, in Carlton, disputed claims he owed Bradford & Bingley £43,000 in mortgage payments.
Mr Crawford, 64, claimed ‘he didn’t owe the bank a penny’ because they had changed the terms of his mortgage without his knowledge.
Dozens of people descended to the street in Carlton to try and blockade the home and prevent him from being evicted by bailiffs.
Police confirmed that arrests were made following clashes with campaigners.
A spokesperson from Nottinghamshire Police said: “Two people were arrested on suspicion of assault on a police constable, one for a breach of the peace, one on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and the other on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and a breach of the peace.
Eviction notice served to travellers in Colwick
From Gedling Eye 27/07/2018

An eviction notice was served on travellers who set up an illegal encampment in Colwick.
The group were asked to leave Colwick Recreation Ground by Gedling Borough Council – or told enforcement action would be taken.
A spokesman for Gedling Borough Council said: “We served eviction notices on the occupiers.
“We want to reassure residents that we are moving as swiftly as the legal process allows to remove the occupiers from the site.
One resident, who didn’t want to be named, said they thought a permanent site should be set up in the area to accommodate the camp in future years.
They said: “This group visit every year. Why not set up somewhere proper for them to go around here instead of this group and the locals being upset each year when an illegal camp is established.”
Vandals target primary school playground plane
From Gedling Eye 31/07/2020

Parents and pupils were ‘absolutely heartbroken’ after a plane in a primary school’s playing field was targeted by vandals.
Images posted on social media showed the plane, which is a popular fixture outside St John’s CofE Primary School on Vale Road, covered in graffiti.
One parent, who contacted Gedling Eye about the incident and didn’t wish to be named said: “Me and my son are heartbroken. I showed him the picture on Facebook and he was very upset. Why would someone do this to a school?”
Other parents took to the Colwick Village Facebook page offering to help clean the paint of the plane, which has become a popular feature in the village.
Nicola Williams wrote: “Some people have respect at all. Let’s hope the culprit or culprits are found and then made to clean it off.”
Parent Hannah Denton wrote: “Absolutely gutted! Hope you find the awful people who did this. Showed my girls and they’re so upset.”
Gedling Borough councillor for Colwick Ward Cllr Meredith Lawrence said he was ‘appalled’ by the attack.
He told Gedling Eye: “The school has recently received a grant from Colwick Parish Council to undertake much-needed repairs and now faces an unexpected bill to remove the graffiti before repairs can take place.
“I hope the culprit is caught, prosecuted, and made to pay for the removal.”
Mr Lawrence, who is also a governor for the school, offered to pay for the cost of the cleaning from his Gedling Borough Councillor Community Fund.
