A blind woman from Arnold has been recognised with a regional award for her campaign work on behalf of a local charity.
Mel Griffiths won the Inclusive and Embracing category at the Guide Dogs’ Local Volunteer Awards which were handed out this week.
Mel was recognised for her passionate campaigning on issues affecting guide dog owners across the country.

As well as making media appearances to speak out about the problems blind people face, Mel also recently went to Parliament to campaign about having tougher sentences imposed on taxi drivers who refuse to take passengers accompanied by guide dogs.
Jo Prior, head of mobility services for the local Guide Dogs team, said: “Our volunteers make a huge difference in helping us deliver services to people with sight loss.
“We couldn’t function without their ongoing commitment and support and we’re grateful for the time, energy and passion they give to help us make a positive difference.”
