Gedling primary school scoops county cup crown

“No other school have managed to get both girl’s and boy’s teams into the final in the same year.”

It has been a season of success in the borough for one talented primary school.

Stanhope Primary, in Gedling village, reached the finals of the county cup football competition with both their girl’s and boy’s teams, with the girls going on to take the crown.

Years five and six were competing.

The amazing achievements of both teams were recognised by sporting royalty, with the pupils having a video message from Carl Froch, as well as a special assembly with England international Sophie Bradley-Auckland.

Nathan Kenney, Year 2 teacher and P.E coordinator at Stanhope, said: “I just wanted to shine a light on our boy’s and girl’s football teams.

“I’ve taught here for seven years and the furthest we have got is a boy’s quarter final last year.

“This year both teams made it to the final with the girl’s going on to win despite only one girl playing regular football outside of school.
