Gedling borough’s ‘elite’ chip shops, according to Scores on the Doors

Did your local chip shop make the list?

There is a fantastic array of fish and chip shops across Gedling borough, offering their own versions of the nation’s favourite meal. But with so many to choose from, how are we to rank them?

When it comes to a good chippy, there are so many factors to consider – from crunchy chips, to crispy batter.

One way to set one apart from another – or at least to make a start – is by prioritising the takeaways by good hygiene ratings. That’s where Scores on the Doors comes in – it’s an online repository of local authority data on the cleanliness of local food businesses.

Council officers regularly visit restaurants and takeaways, inspecting them for food handling hygiene, building condition and record keeping, scoring them between zero and five. The lowest score means that “urgent improvement is required”, while top marks means that “hygiene standards are very good”.

Additionally, Scores on the Doors awards “elite” status to venues which achieve the top score of five for three years in a row.

  1. There is another very very good chippy which is far better than the ones mentioned above and those that know, know; however if I tell you about it the queues will be even worse than they are now!
