Drop-in event in Arnold to offer legal and financial advice in cost-of-living crisis

Help is at hand to ensure Gedling borough residents get financial support during the cost-of-living crisis.

A support event is being held in Arnold next week to help those struggling with the cost of living.

Rising costs have hit household finances hard, which is why Gedling Borough Council has joined with their partners to hold a household support event as part of Challenge Poverty Week.

Challenge Poverty Week takes place between October 16 – 22 and is an opportunity to raise awareness of services available to help those in need, and to change the conversation around poverty.

The event takes place at the Civic Centre, Arnot Hill Park, Arnold, NG5 6LU on Friday, October 20 from 10am – 12noon and brings together a range of partner organisations who will be highlighting the different services they offer, helping with enquiries, and raising awareness of the other schemes that may be available for residents.

The services being promoted at the event are available throughout the year, but by bringing partners together in one place for the event, residents will be able to quickly deal with enquiries, including those which involve multiple different agencies.

Support at the event includes, housing benefit and legal advice, checking residents are receiving the correct benefits, health and wellbeing support, help completing application forms, job seeker information as well as details of schemes and promotions across the borough to help with the cost of living.

Councillor Kathryn Fox, Portfolio Holder for Life Chances and Vulnerability said: “The cost of living is having a huge impact on our residents, and we want to make sure we do everything we can to ensure that those who need support are aware of, and can access, the help they need.

“We are committed to ensuring that vulnerable residents are supported through our own welfare services as well as community partnerships, and events like this, that bring different agencies together under one roof are key to helping as many residents as possible.

We have some fantastic partners working alongside us at this event, all with a shared goal of improving the lives of people in Gedling Borough. I’d like to thank everyone involved in putting this event together, and to encourage any residents struggling with the cost of living to visit this event and see what support is available.”

The event is free of charge to attend and there is no booking required.
