A popular Daybrook play area is about to get a major facelift thanks to funding worth £65,000.
The play area on Salop Street Recreation Ground will be closed to the public from Monday, October 5 to allow transformation work to begin.
The revamp is being funded using £65,000 capital funding which has been secured through local housing and commercial developments in the area.
The work is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete and the play area will be closed to the public during this time.
As well as the traditional playground favourites, the park will also gain a new multi-activity unit which includes 4-metre-long monkey bars, a climbing wall, tubular slide and spinner.
There will also be a bowl swing, tic-tac-toe play panel and lottery play wheel, to encourage group play and social interaction.
Councillor Peter Barnes, Portfolio Holder for Environment said he was delighted that funding for the improvement works has finally been found.
He said: “We’re really pleased to have got this funding to revamp the Salop Street play area which was in need of some improvements. The range of new equipment will keep the children entertained and help them improve their social skills while having fun.”
