A new weighbridge has been opened to the public in Calverton.
The new facility, which is based at RC Tuxford Exports, in Hollinwood Lane, can now be used by the public and traders to weigh vehicles for a small fee.
It brings the total in Nottinghamshire to 14.
Weighbridges play a vital role in today’s industry, providing valuable weight data for haulage vehicles and bulk loading activities for companies.
A head teacher from a Colwick primary school has been selected to attend the tenth annual Teachers’ Institute in the Houses of Parliament.
Chris Belton, who is head teacher at St John the Baptist Primary School, was selected from more than a hundred applicants to attend this event in Parliament from July 4-8.
Mr Belton will get to meet the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Education, participate in question and answer sessions with the Speaker and the Lord Speaker, and hear from parliamentarians of all parties in both the Commons and Lords.
A boxer who feared he would never fight again after being involved in a serious car crash just seven months ago has been crowned East Midlands light welterweight champion.
Arnold School of Boxing fighter Callum Schofield faced Derby opponent Rhys Ledkinski in the title fight that was held in Grantham.
The 18-year-old from Bulwell won all three rounds against opponent Ledkinski, who boxes for Prospects ABC.
Club founder Clinton McPhilbin told Gedling Eye: “This caps off a remarkable turnaround for Schofield, who was involved in a serious car crash that nearly stopped him boxing all together.
“But he worked hard in the gym and is now crowned champion
He added: “He won all three rounds with some very strong and accurate shots”
Schofield will now look to defend his belt at the end of June.
On June 4, police received calls about two males acting suspiciously on people’s driveways and entering gardens in the Ravenshead area. There have been a small number of burglaries in the area over the past few weeks. Police attended and detained one of the males – with help from a police dog. Officers also found equipment which could have possibly been used to gain entry into houses.
Police received numerous calls on May 29 about off-road bikes in the Newstead area. Some damage was caused to a police car. One male was stopped and his bike was seized using police powers. Appropriate action will now be taken against the rider.

Once again, police are seeing a high number of motorbikes being stolen in the area. They are mainly 125cc bikes. Police are keen to remind people that leaving your bikes on show or insecure makes it easier for the opportunist and professionals to steal it.
Please ensure your bike is not visible where possible and in all cases use a toughened lock to secure it to a strong permanent structure. Consider having an alarm fitted if you don’t already have one or a tracking device.
During the first two weeks of May, local police officers reported that past a number of work vans, predominately Ford Transit vans, have been broken into overnight. A number of vans have been targeted in the Bestwood Ward area. No damage was caused to the vehicles but offenders are removing tools. Police are reminding people to remove tools and other valuables from work vans overnight.
A charity that offers a service to help people in the borough with sight loss get out and about is appealing for volunteers.
Guide Dogs’ My Guide service relies on members of the public to give up a couple of hours a week to guide someone in their local community.
The service helps blind and partially-sighted people regain their independent with volunteers helping them to the shops, the gym or to access services in the local community.

Lowdham’s audience saw a stripped back, largely acoustic format – Simon Nicol (guitar/vocals), Dave Pegg (bass/vocals), Chris Leslie (multiple instruments/vocals), Ric Sanders (fiddle/vocals) and Gerry Conway (Cajon/percussion). Nicol compared the coming and goings of early Fairport members with the crew of the ship as charted in Ralph McTell’s, Clear Water.
People in Gedling Borough are being invited to have their say on proposals for new bus and bike lanes between Colwick and the city centre.
Plans for Nottingham City Council’s Eco Expressway includes new bus lanes, better cycle and pedestrian facilities and priority lanes for electric vehicles and taxis on roads between the city centre and Vale Road in Colwick, via Manvers Street and Daleside Road.
The new bus and low-carbon lanes are proposed to be used by the new all-electric Park and Ride buses and possibly also new gas-powered Nottingham City Transport buses, if the council’s funding bid is approved by the Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles.
Students living in Gedling borough are being warned about a new phishing attack targeting those attending universities.
The email, which claims to be from the finance department of the student’s university, tells them they have been awarded an educational grant by the Department for Education.
The recipient is then urged to click on a link contained in the message to provide personal and banking details.
A digital expert from Carlton has assured users of a free email service that a problem causing their inboxes to be inundated with junk mail has now mostly been resolved.
People with a free Microsoft Outlook and Hotmail account may have found they were bombarded with junk mail earlier this week after the software giant’s spam filters went down .
Geoff Wing, a digital expert from Carlton who provides advice to firms in London, said Microsoft were aware of the issue and a fix was now in place.
He told Gedling Eye: “My wife told me that she’d been receiving a large number of emails asking if she be interested in enlarging a certain part of my anatomy. At first I worried about what sites she had been on.
INVESTMENT: The new rotary window patching and lining machine
A Colwick-based printing firm has invested £300,000 in a new state-of-the-art rotary window patching and lining machine as part of its ongoing investment plan to increase capacity.
This latest equipment purchase follows a string of investments by The Wilkins Group to increase capacity and enhance the value of its products in the food and textile sectors and to stay at the forefront of a demanding industry.
The Heiber + Schröber WP Master Window Patching Machine has been installed at The Wilkins Group’s UK factory in Colwick and uses up to four different run modes, which will help to increase capacity.
Justin Wilkins, sales and marketing director at The Wilkins Group said: “Following a very successful year for The Wilkins Group, and the inclusion of new business, we knew that we needed to make a few important investments to be able to continue to not only give our customers the best quality of product, but to remain proactive in each individual demanding sector.
“Speed and turnaround is vital in this industry and especially in the food and textile sectors, the way that packaging looks has become vital for so many of our clients. The window patching and lining machine will help us to offer our clients a high quality product that also helps to promote the appearance of their individual products.”
