Colwick primary school head teacher chosen for event in Parliament

A head teacher from a Colwick primary school has been selected to attend the tenth annual Teachers’ Institute in the Houses of Parliament.

Chris Belton, who is head teacher at St John the Baptist Primary School, was selected from more than a hundred applicants to attend this event in Parliament from July 4-8.

Mr Belton will get to meet the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Education, participate in question and answer sessions with the Speaker and the Lord Speaker, and hear from parliamentarians of all parties in both the Commons and Lords.

In the ten years since it was launched, Teachers’ Institute has trained more than 500 teachers, from all parts of the UK, in the role, work and history of Parliament.

Vernon Coaker, MP for Gedling, said: “I am delighted that Chris Belton, a teacher from my constituency, is attending Parliament’s Teachers’ Institute.

“Teachers have so many opportunities to engage young people with their Parliament and I am sure that the students in St John the Baptist Primary in Colwick will benefit from Chris’s experience.”
