A medal and coins to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has been presented to an Arnold volunteer cop to reward him for his long service.
Special Constable Alan Marwood is the force’s longest-serving recipient and has been with Notts Police for 52 years.
The volunteer, from Arnold, joined Nottinghamshire Police in 1970 and has policed many different areas in the county, said he was delighted to receive the special commemorative medal.
He said: “It’s a very nice gesture. When you take the oath you swear to serve our Sovereign Lady, so the Queen’s been ‘the boss’ for 70 years.

“She’s done such a fantastic job and so it’s nice to receive a medal commemorating her Platinum Jubilee.
“It’s lovely to have but I’m going to let my wife, Margaret, have it as she’s stood by me all these years. We have a little grandson and in the fullness of time he can have it as a memento.”
Acting as a token of the nation’s thanks, the Platinum Jubilee Medal – which is made of nickel silver – follows a long history of awarding medals to mark Royal Jubilees, with the first one awarded to mark the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s reign in 1887.
The Platinum Jubilee Medal has been designed by Timothy Noad of the College of Arms and features an image of The Queen with the Latin inscription ‘Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina Fid Def’ which stands for ‘Elizabeth II, By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith.
It is the fourth jubilee medal created for The Queen and the seventh official Jubilee medal to be awarded by a Monarch. Previous medals were officially awarded to celebrate The Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, Golden Jubilee in 2002 and Diamond Jubilee in 2012 – where around 450,000 medals were given out.

As people in Gedling borough gear up for a three-day week, it’s all eyes on the weather forecast for the upcoming long weekend.
From Thursday, things look likely to settle down for most with good periods of dry and fine weather but there is a small chance of one or two showers for central parts of England.
From late on Friday there is still a good deal of uncertainty, with settled weather on the cards for most with patchy cloud and sunny spells. However, a plume of warm air from the continent could influence the weather from Friday night, bringing overnight showers here that could linger for a time early on Saturday.
The main source of uncertainty is how far north this plume of warm air will extend, bringing with it an increased risk of some showery outbreaks through the weekend.
Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Helen Caughey said: “Many parts of England will see settled conditions over the long Jubilee Weekend, with plenty of dry weather and good spells of sunshine. Temperatures will be widely into the low 20s, feeling warmer in the sunshine, although temperatures will drop off quickly into the evenings.
“The main source of uncertainty for the weekend itself is to do with how far a plume of warm air, currently across the continent, encroaches over southern areas of the UK from late on Friday. The latest outlook suggests that this plume of warm air could bring a spell of showers on Friday and into early Saturday, with some showers hanging around for a time on Saturday.”
With a busy Jubilee Weekend on the roads expected, RAC traffic spokesman Rod Dennis said: “The fact the bank holidays coincide with the end of half-term in many places has the potential to put some extra pressure on the road network, so planning a journey carefully is important to beat the worst of any queues.
“The best way for drivers to avoid breaking down this week is to check over their vehicles before setting out – yet our research shows less than a fifth do this routinely. Making sure oil, coolant and screenwash are all at the right levels takes just minutes, as does ensuring tyres are free of damage and are inflated properly. A bit of TLC now could make the difference between a straightforward trip and one beset by a breakdown.”
An MP has welcomed Government funding for a new cycling scheme connecting Colwick and Netherfield.
Gedling MP Tom Randall has welcomed plans to create a new cycle track along the A612 Colwick Loop Road (Private Road 1) to the A6211 in Netherfield.
The cash has come from the Government’s £200 million Active Travel Fund for 134 schemes marks the ‘golden age’ of cycling and walking – which the say will enable communities across the country to get out on their bikes and enjoy cheaper, cleaner and greener travel across their area.
Gedling MP, Tom Randall said: “As we focus on greener and cheaper travel to slash emissions and address the cost of living, it is vital that Gedling’s communities are provided with the infrastructure they need to enjoy active travel.
“That is why I am delighted a new cycle track along the A612 Colwick Loop Road (from Private Road 1) to the A6211 in Netherfield is part of the Conservative Government’s £4,630,000 commitment to improve the quality, safety and accessibility of walking and cycling routes across Nottinghamshire.
“Providing this cycling infrastructure will better connect Colwick residents to nearby jobs at Netherfield retail park and boost active, green and cheaper travel for all to enjoy. This not only cleans our air but increases the choice of travel and a dedicated cycle track makes it easier and safer for people to keep active.”
Transport minister Trudy Harrison said: “This multi-million-pound investment will ensure people right across the country can access cheap, healthy and zero-emission travel.
“Active Travel England will be working hard to create a new golden age of walking and cycling, enabling everyone to reap the benefits of a more active lifestyle, creating streets where children can play, and making nicer places to live.”
Dozens of street parties and events are lined up for the big Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend.
Whether you get into the spirit of the occasion, or just want to enjoy the extended bank holiday, there are scores of things to do across Gedling borough between Thursday, June 2 and Sunday, June 5 to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne.
Gedling will be among more than 1,500 places lighting 1,500 beacons throughout the UK.
Lots of other events are taking place across the borough and you can find details of these HERE.

East Midlands Ambulance Service has made a plea to those organising Jubilee street parties across Gedling borough.
The service has asked that those organising the parties ensure there is enough room on the street for their vehicles to gain access in case of an emergency.
In a tweet, the service said: “Please help our life-saving clinicians get to people quickly.

“Ensure that there is a space wide enough for the size of an ambulance to gain access and exit from your street. This means an unobstructed carriageway of four metres (13 feet).”
A number of streets will be closing over the coming days so that parties to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years of service can be held.
A list of the roads expected to close over the coming days for celebrations can be found HERE.
An Arnold school organised an action-packed day to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee before breaking up for half term.
During the day, youngsters from Killisick Junior School dressed up in red, white and blue and also decorated their school with union flags and bunting and balloons.
Children made their own tiaras and crowns and held a whole-school picnic in the grounds.
Children were welcomed into school by a lifesize cardboard Queen who also attended the school’s celebration ‘Living Our School Values’ assembly.
A number of pubs in Arnold, Colwick and Mapperley will be offering pints for just 6p today in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Pub chain Greene King has announced that their customers can today (May 30) enjoy an incredibly cheap pint of Greene King IPA at participating pubs.
To get hold of the cheap pint you will need to use a secret codeword.
The pub chain will be offering the 6p pints at 408 of its sites because that was the average cost of a pint during the Queen’s ascension to the throne in 1952.
Anyone visiting one of the Greene King Local Pub or Flaming Grill sites will be able to claim the offer by using the password “1952”.
Andrew Gallagher, marketing director at Greene King Local Pubs, said: “The platinum jubilee is a fantastic way for the UK to come together and celebrate our Queen and country, so we wanted to take our customers back to where it all began – 1952, a time when Vera Lynn ruled the charts and pints were only 6p.
“We can’t wait to see our customers enjoy this royally good deal on Monday, May 30, and look forward to celebrating the platinum jubilee in all our pubs across the bank holiday weekend.”
Police used stingers to bring a speeding car in Arnold to a stop before a suspect was arrested after running from the scene.
Officers were called to the town just after midnight on Saturday (May 28) after receiving intelligence suggesting a car was being driven by a disqualified driver.
After attempting to stop the suspect vehicle, the driver is understood to have then sped away from police and was clocked by officers as travelling over 100mph at one stage.
Stingers were then deployed by officers on Calverton Road to slow the car down, before it was eventually brought to a stop and abandoned on Smithy Crescent.
A short foot-chase is understood to have then taken place, with police dogs used to track down the suspect within minutes.
A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, and possession of a bladed article.
He remains in police custody.
Sergeant Sue Farren, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a great example of teamwork, with colleagues from different departments including our police dogs team all playing a part in us locating, detaining and arresting a suspect.
“It is testament to the skill and professionalism of everyone involved that this incident was brought to a swift conclusion without anyone being seriously hurt.
“The safety of people across Nottinghamshire, including users of our roads, is our top priority as a force, which is why we will always act quickly to stop anyone deemed to be driving dangerously or over the speed limit on our streets.
“Our enquiries are still ongoing into this incident, so we’d ask anyone with any information that could assist us with our investigation to call police on 101, quoting incident 7 of 28 May 2022.”
