Roadworks to remove ‘useless’ bus plug in Gedling completed five weeks ahead of schedule

Traffic disruption and delays for motorists travelling through a part of Gedling is now over, after roadworks to remove a controversial bus plug were completed five weeks ahead of schedule.

A section of Burton Road that had been closed to remove the plug officially reopened on Friday (6) following the early completion of works.

Campaigning by Trent Valley councillors Sam Smith and Mike Adams, with the backing of hundreds of local residents has led to the bus plug being removed.

“This is a huge win for local residents,” said Cllr Smith.

“We’ve worked tirelessly with the community over many years to get this unnecessary bus-plug removed. This shows what we can achieve when residents and councillors work together.

“We listened, we acted, and we’ve delivered.”

The bus-plug, which many residents felt contributed to traffic build-up and inconvenience, was the subject of a successful community petition championed by the councillors.

Cllr Mike Adams, who also serves the Burton Road area as its Nottinghamshire County Councillor, said: “This was a key election pledge—and today we’re proud to have delivered it with action, not just words.

“The early reopening is a bonus, and we’re delighted that residents will benefit from improved traffic flow and safer road conditions ahead of schedule.”

“This successful project is part of ongoing efforts to improve local infrastructure and respond directly to the needs of the community.

  1. oh my god have you seen the problems in Arnold on the roads and we are messying about and reporting on this think about Arnold fisrt witch is our capital our London and not these places

      • ha ha yes of corse without our town the rest of you would be broak as no good shops in your towns or good parks we have mcdonalds we have gregs WH Smiths and we have the best park without this tourist money the tax would be higher

        • Where are these amazing parks and shops? The town is a white elephant, man. Millions and millions spent and yet it’s still an absolute dive. The rest of this borough is SICK of cash being sunk into Arnold. No money spent in Netherfield and no money spent in Carlton or Calverton, yet your crime-ridden chav town sucks up cash with no benefit at all. You are all still stabbing each other and stealing -n despite being better off than the rest of us. Our capital? If so it’s the biggest embarrassment!

          • Well said Duane. This is a massive benefit for this side of Gedling and he has to turn it into an argument about bloody Arnold. Well done Cllrs SMith and Adams. Great work.
