Bin collections in Gedling borough ‘operating as normal’ during coronavirus lockdown – but residents are being urged to put bin out night before collection

Bin collections are currently ‘operating as normal’, despite the coronavirus crisis, Gedling Borough Council have confirmed.

The leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke said: “We’re currently operating our refuse collections as normal but there has been some disruption to glass box and garden waste collections as a result of staff shortages.

“We strongly advise that households sign up to our bin alerts emails at gedling.gov.uk/reminder and we will update them if there’s any disruption to their collections.

“We’re retraining and redeploying staff from other departments to make sure we continue to provide the service and we’ll be reviewing this on a daily basis.

“I’d like to thank all our residents for their support and understanding and I’d also like to thank our refuse crews and their support teams, they are facing a huge challenge at the moment and they are doing a great job.

“Residents are advised to put their bins out the night before a collection is due as some rounds may be collected earlier than usual.

  1. My garden bin hasn’t been emptied even though I got an email last night to said it would be?

    • My garden bin wasn’t emptied either (Gedling). I wouldn’t have minded if they had told me that in advance but I carted it up my garden steps for nothing. I think the best bet is not to pay for the service going forwards, if it’s not happening.

  2. No glass collection in Burton Road/Manor Road/Manor Crescent this week; response from Gedling Council “we’ll collect next month” 🙁 Thanks!

  3. I don’t know what is happening with the bin collectors in the Redhill/Arnold area, but the standards are plummeting like a stone. I pay extra for two garden waste bins and put them out the night before collection, the bin men do a half-hearted job leaving both bins still 75% full.
I’m promised by the person manning the ‘Uncollected Bin’ line that they will be emptied if left out, they are still full, sat on the end of my drive two weeks later.

I’ve just had the black bin rubbish collected to find eighteen inches of rubbish still left in the bottom of the bin.

There are people out there that actually want a job, why not weed out these half-a-job-will-do staff and employ decent crews.
