Gedling borough residents are being reminded they can recycle their real Christmas trees this year by taking them along to Nottingham County Council’s recycling centre at Calverton.
Trees taken to the recycling centre are shredded for composting or chipped for use in parks and gardens, rather than taken to landfill or left to rot at the bottom of the garden.
Recycling your tree this year not only benefits the environment, but also the British Legion, as a recycling firm has promised to make a donation to the charity based on recycling numbers.
For every 50 tonnes of Christmas trees sent for recycling throughout January, Veolia – who manage waste for the council – will donate £100 to The Royal British Legion. The Legion is this year’s chosen charity of County Council Chairman Coun Sybil Fielding for her year in office.

Newark and Sherwood are offering a service to residents for collection of Christmas trees (to avoid needle mayhem in cars) A £5 charge is made and this seems to me like a really good idea. It would be good if Gedling were to adopt a similar scheme. The city seem to offer this service too.
