Scammers claiming to from a Thomas Cook ‘refund team’ are targeting customers in Gedling borough.
People in the area are reporting receiving calls in which they are offered a refund on holiday costs following the collapse of the company on Monday.
The caller says the refund can be given once they have the customer’s 16-digit card number and CVV number.
Trading Standards are now asking people to contact Action Fraud UK if they receive this type of call.
People can report and get advice about fraud or cyber crime by calling 0300 123 2040, or use the online fraud reporting tool.
Sharon May from Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards said: “Reports are being received of residents receiving bogus calls and messages offering “refunds” by people claiming to be acting on behalf of “Thomas Cook”.
“We would urge people to be vigilant of all unsolicited calls, texts or social media messages that ask for personal or financial details, and not to click on the links in unexpected emails.
If you are receiving a lot of unwanted calls, consider talking to your land line provider or purchasing a telephone with call blocking functions”
