A councillor has put in an official request to a local authority for new cameras to help enforce a speed zone in Burton Joyce.
Nottinghamshire County Councillor Mike Adams, who represents Carlton East, informed villagers of the request via his Facebook page.
He said: ” I am incredibly excited to tell you that I have today submitted my official request with the council’s highways department for average speed cameras to enforce the 30mph speed zone in the village of Burton Joyce.

“It will need approval from the cabinet members before the end of the calendar year and installation will be scheduled, if the bid is successful, in the next financial year.
“You will no doubt be aware we have had many accidents in recent times and over the years along this stretch of road.
It continues to be my mission to make safety of the A612 better for all across Carlton East.
Villagers were recently delighted to learn that a new crossing has been approved at Millfield Close and were also pleased to see speed warning signs installed targeting motorists leaving the village.
Arnold lane in Gedling also needs speed cameras yellow ones not what we have now flashing your speed up slow down
nope , its a police matter. speak to them
There also needs to be cameras on the traffic lights where the junction to the old Burton Road is and the new Colliery Way starts. There are some idiots about who, despite the lanes being clearly marked for left turn or straight on, just barge round the corner from the middle straight on lane putting all the drivers in the correct left turn lane at risk. It’s happened to me three times and there have been other incidents and I noticed one incidence (not me this time) when there was a police car just behind who nabbed the culprit.
Humps, lights, speed cameras, more and more crossings, average speed cameras….the list grows ever long. When the traffic is crawling through the village, which it already does, you’ll be moaning about the pollution and exhaust particulates next. The problem is not always speed and don’t assume so or be quick to blame it…moreover it’s because pedestrians and children don’t think, have little or no road sense and parents cannot be ar*ed to educate children or show them the dangers of playing near roads, don’t show them how to cross safely, the look right look left look right again etc stuff. Green Cross Code…remember that one? Youngsters have their earpods crammed in their tabs, head buried in their phone and step out in front of moving cars and when they get hurt parents are quick to look elsewhere for the blame and not consider it’s because they neglected their parental duty to educate them on road dangers and instill a bit of common sense. School kids walk home along Burton Rd and you see them mucking about at the roadside shoving and jostling and then they step into the road or are pushed into it. Loop Rd speed limit got hammered because of a death, but neglected to say the death was the pedestrians fault. Colwick speed cameras,/ red light violation cameras, another death…again pedestrians fault. More road safety is needed, children need educating. You can put as many cameras, crossings and humps as you like…if there is no road sense these won’t stop jack sh*t. Parents, get off your ar*e and spend some time on road safety. Drill it into them, make them have it. This will prevent accidents more than mechanical means.
Motorist rarely speed in BJ, another waste of public funds if it goes ahead. Why not ask to get the ridiculous bus plug removed outside Carlton willows school and remove the temporary camera on stoke lane. People will thank you for those but not for average speed cameras where there’s no speeders.
