Mr Payne said: “I was invited to Buckingham Palace to meet Their Majesties, The King and Queen on behalf of the people of Gedling.

“His Majesty, The King commented on what a beautiful county Nottinghamshire is. I wished him well on behalf of Gedling’s communities and let him know his family would always be welcome for a Royal visit to Gedling in the future.

“We talked about the important charity work His Majesty’s family have supported in and around Nottingham.

“I was also fortunate to have a conversation with Her Majesty, The Queen and His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh.”

Speaking after the event, Michelle Welsh MP said: “It was a privilege to represent the people of Sherwood Forest at such a prestigious occasion and to raise issues that truly matter to our communities. “His Majesty remarked that he would take the train up to visit the area in the future.

“It was wonderful to hear His Majesty speak so warmly about Sherwood Forest, and I would be delighted to welcome him to our constituency. His interest in our communities is truly appreciated, and I look forward to continuing to champion the issues that matter most to local people.”
