The Government is to make extra funds available for Nottinghamshire County Council to repair potholes across the county – including those affecting roads across Gedling borough.
The funding is from the £250m Pothole Action Fund which the Chancellor announced in the Budget last month and which, it is estimated, will fix more than four million potholes nationally by 2020/21
Nine councils across the East Midlands are receiving a share of £5.6 million, helping to remove around 106,000 potholes from local roads during this financial year.
It is estimated that the £839,000 allocated to Nottinghamshire County Council will help repair around 15,830 potholes.
“This is welcome news, coming as it does against a backdrop of more than £212m savings that we as an authority have had to make since 2010 as a result of Government funding cuts and a further £50m which we are having to find over the next four years,” said Coun Alan Rhodes, Leader of the County Council.
“As the 11th largest county in the UK, the Council looks after a network of around 2,600 miles of road – a mixture of urban and rural — and spends more than £2.8m a year on carriageway repairs such as patching and filling in potholes.
“The extra £839,000 will enable us to fund the repair of around 15,830 more potholes across the county.”
