Gedling Borough Council has now issued a statement online following the speculation.

The authority said: “Over recent days, we’ve become aware of growing concerns among Gedling residents regarding the people now living at Adbolton House, Westdale Lane. We’d like to provide clarity, confirm the facts, and reassure you to avoid the spread of misinformation.

“These are families from Mauritius, arriving via London, not refugees and are British nationals with passports and valid tenancy agreements.

“The temporary placement was arranged by Hillingdon Council and a private housing provider (PMSE London Ltd).

They added: “All have been given support to register locally and access public services. “

  1. Refugees or not, they are a group of people who all come from the same overseas location. A London council is able to house these people whilst local people in Gedling are struggling to find accommodation. More pressure on our GP services as well, but none of this matters as long as the ‘misinformation’ has been put right.

  2. Chagossians are coming from Mauritius because they say they feel unsafe there after the UK government agreed a deal to hand over the Chagos Islands to the country. So they are refugees.

  3. So that means you think our homeless are safe on the streets. Where ever these people have come from they have still been awarded housing before British working families

  4. The Chagossians have been displaced by Britain many years ago, had their country turned into a military base, and now it’s been given to Mauritius and leased back. The least we can do as a civilised nation is provide them somewhere to live in return for taking their country off them.

    • So how many you putting up in your home then?…oh let me guess..cant cause your in rented?…only got one bedroom,.. landlord wont allow it?….ahh shut up about we owe it to them. We owe them nothing. Another armchair warrior. Put them up on your road then…hmmm thought not.

  5. Actually, they are British citizens as that was their reward for having their country taken from them. Try reading the bbc article about it. Yet another shameful episode from our history of empire.

    • Your that ashamed of us?…bugger off then. Go on , nobody us stopping you if your ashamed of us…..dont let door hit you on the way out…

    • Your that ashamed of us?…clear off then. Go on , nobody us stopping you if your ashamed of us…..don’t let door hit you on the way out…
