The former owner of an Arnold takeaway has been fined £3428 after pleading guilty to failing to comply with Food Hygiene Improvement Notices.
Saqib Hussain – who is no longer owner of Midland Kebab in Arnold but still works there part time – pleaded guilty to five offences of failing to comply with Food Hygiene Improvement Notices on Friday, June 17 at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court.
The takeaway had a history of low food hygiene scores when Mr Hussain took over as the Food Business Operator in January 2015.

Following a complaint from the public Gedling Borough Council’s Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) visited the premises for an inspection. They found staff were not wearing protective clothing to handle food, the cooker was dirty and greasy, raw and cooked foods were stored incorrectly and the cleaning equipment was not fit for purpose.
When the EHOs looked at Mr Hussain’s Safer Food Better Business Pack, which operators are required to keep up to date, it was found that the documents were being falsely filled in, as food hygiene standards were not the same as indicated in the pack.
Mr Hussain appeared in court relating to five Food Hygiene Improvement Notices served on October 20, 2015, which required compliance by November 5, 2015. When EHOs returned to check Midland Kebab on November 6, they found a poor level of compliance and further action was taken against him.
In court Mr Hussain was fined £520 for each offence and ordered to pay £568 costs and a £260 victim surcharge, totalling £3428.
Councillor David Ellis, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection said: “Mr Hussain failed to comply with the hygiene notices served by our Environmental Health Officers, despite being given details of how he could make the required improvements.
“We encourage businesses to work with us to improve their hygiene standards and ratings, but if they choose not to comply they will be prosecuted’”
