The authority says its Woodthorpe Park Christmas Event has grown over the last six years, welcoming more than 10,000 visitors to enjoy wreath making and miniature Christmas Tree planting.

The city council will spend £50,000 on the Christmas trees which will then be sold to the public.

The event is being organised by the site’s nursery team

The local authority said the plans ‘contribute to the Carbon Neutral 2028 strategy by delivering locally sourced plants, many of which help create biodiversity and bee friendly habitats’.

Prices for the Christmas trees start at around £28 for potted trees and a six-foot tree will cost around £47.

Donna Cresswell-Duly, the City Council’s business development manager for public realm, said: “Our Christmas event is our largest event of the year and there will be a small market, music from a choir and a ukulele group and a café.

“It’s an opportunity for families to come down and the kids can decorate a tree and meet Santa.

“We also sell Christmas trees and we pride ourselves on them being responsibly and locally sourced.”

Council documents added: “Local artisans, crafters, and independents sell their products in our Marketplace and visitors can buy a range of ethically sourced potted and cut  Christmas Trees, ranging in size from miniature Saplings to 8ft and available in three varieties – Nordmann, Fraser Fir and Norway Spruce.”
