Cobras’ sink Gedling in first of double header.
The Miners were coming into this game after a solid victory at West Bridgford last week and started brightly in the early phases of this match.
The first noticeable chance came on 13 minutes, Greg Tempest whipped in a superb corner which somehow evaded everyone in the area and the visitors cleared.
However, on 20 minutes the hosts were given a great chance to take the lead, Jack Jepson raced into the area before he was bundled over and the ref pointed to the spot much to the disagreement of the Clipstone faithful, but Josh Thornton’s penalty was saved by Charlie Dando.
This save was vital as just 30 seconds later Clipstone took the lead, a quick break saw Gedling outnumbered and Will Heather slotted the ball past the onrushing Louis Richardson from 12 yards.
On 35 minutes the visitors extended their lead, a ball down the left caught Cameron Thurgood out and Ryan Ingram cut inside and smashed his effort into the top right corner from 8 yards out.
Gedling did not let their heads drop and on 38 minutes they should have got back into the game, Ruben Wiggins-Thomas slipped in Tyrell Shannon-Lewis down the left and his cutback was fired over by Jepson from 10 yards out.
On 41 minutes the cobras struck a 3rd, A clever corner saw the ball be dummied twice and the ball was slotted under Richardson from Tim Gregory from 6 yards out.
With the last action of the half the visitors should have gone 4 up, A cross found the unmarked Philip Buxton who hit a powerful effort from 6 yards which was brilliantly tipped over by Richardson.
Clipstone, who sit just outside the play offs put the game to bed just 3 minutes after the interval, Another long ball saw Ingram burst past Thurgood and his low cross was tapped in by Gregory for his 2nd of the game and to give the visitors a 4-0 lead.
The 2nd half was very uneventful with neither side really threatening and Gedling’s night got worse on 90 minutes. Debutant Nathan Kelly was shown a straight red card for smashing the ball into the face of a Clipstone player.
In the second minute of injury time the visitors were also reduced to 10 men, Eden Homer was given his marching orders for a late challenge on Semilore Kassim but the visitors ran out victorious and we play them again on Saturday with a big response needed.
