Central Midlands Alliance League Premier South – September 2
Both Linby sides fell to defeat at the weekend as the first were narrowly edged, 1-0, at home to Pinxton, and the reserves, 3-1 away to Ashland Rovers.
At Church Lane, Matt Peberday’s side put up a fight against visiting Pinxton, and could easily have taken a very early lead (as has been the case of late); a shout for a penalty in the first minute, for a possible foul on Ashdon Bernard, was waved away by referee Ibrahim Arsali, before Dylan Walker saw his effort blocked a minute later.
The visiting number eleven, Liam West, saw a volleyed effort sail over Jack Walker’s bar, before Brad Newbys shot was blocked well by Dylan Walker, both attempts coming in a matter of minutes with the visitors seizing control of the game.
Linby looked to turn things back in the favour just before the half hour mark when captain Greg Conn fired wide, Connor Gillan fired a free-kick over, and visiting shot-stopper saved well from Mason Moore.
With five minutes to go until the break, Nathan Benger sent a volley goal-wards for Pinxton, Walker equal to it however in the home goal as the two sides went in goalless at the break.
The second period continued in much the same vein, both sides creating chances but unable to find that killer breakthrough.
Benger headed over after fifty minutes before a free-kick from Sean Craven was dropped by Sherwood in the visiting goal, unfortunately for Linby, nobody was following up.
The chances continued to flow as first Conn headed wide of Sherwood’s goal, and Newby sent a free-kick over Walker’s bar, both goals leading a seemingly charmed life; the visitors though, they grabbed what proved the winning goal with thirteen minutes left on the clock as substitute Morgan Richards took aim from the edge of the box, and saw his effort deflect into the back of Walker’s net. There looked to be a blatant foul on Sanousi Ibrahim in the build up, but the officials waved away Linbys appeals.

Both sides could have registered in the closing ten minutes, a throw-in from Linby sub, Connaire Seery, was headed wide by Josh Wass at one end then, minutes later, Pinxton scorer, Richards, is denied by Walker in a one-on-one situation, the visitors holding out for a 1-0 win.
