Carlton Town were defeated for the second time in four days by Tividale in their penultimate game home game of the season.
Even though Carlton had the majority of possession, it was the hosts who scored first through Daniel Ashton, who slotted home past keeper Martin Kearney. Karl Edwards went on to double Tividale’s lead just before the break. With two minutes to go, it was David Bellis who capped off the scoring, with a great effort from distance.
Carlton did start off brightly and had plenty of the ball, but were unable to test Paul Evans in goal for most of the first half, and in fact it was the visitors with the first decent effort, when Zach Foster saw his free kick hit the top of the crossbar after dipping somewhat in the first place.
Then came the goal, as Daniel Ashton beat two players on the edge of the box, before drilling a low shot straight across the body of Kearney and into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.
Edwards had a great chance to double the lead after the half hour mark when Adam Murphy’s slide tackle fell straight to the feet of the striker, but he mishit his effort, going wide of Kearney’s post.
However, minutes later and Edwards did get his goal. It was Foster who delivered a low cross into the box, which found the striker, who placed the ball past Kearney, to double Tividale’s lead.
The Millers were let off the hook two times more before the break. Firstly when Mitchell Botfield shot at goal, but Kearney was able to save. Then again when Edwards won the ball off Paolo Piliero but his shot went high and over the bar.
At half time, McJannet tried to turn things around, by bringing about a flat back four, pushing Alex Troke into midfield, with Dan Fletcher going to wide right. As Antonio Wedderburn replaced Matthew Newton, who had a dead leg after being clattered in the first half.
To start with the change of tactics worked, as Aaron Hooton managed to get the Millers first shot on target, with a curling effort, from just inside the box, but was plucked out by Evans in the Tividale goal.
It was Hooton who again fired a shot towards goal but Evans again managed to get down to turn the ball behind for a corner.
However, Tividale again managed to get back into the game and it was Kearney again who made a great save diving to his right, to prevent Botfield from adding to their lead.
Yet, it was in vain as Bellis did get that third goal after all, when he hit the ball from 25 yards and straight into the top corner of the goal. Leaving Kearney motionless and no chance of saving.
Carlton now move onto their final home game of the season on Saturday, when they host Romulas, who did beat Carlton 4-0 earlier in the season, and McJannet will be hoping for an improvement his players in the return fixture.
