Patients in Carlton and surrounding areas were today looking elsewhere for medical care after a surgery was unexpectedly closed by inspectors.
Over 4,000 patients will now be signing up to see GPs at other surgeries in the area after being informed that The Willows Medical Centre was being temporarily closed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
A patient from Netherfield who didn’t want to be named told Gedling Eye: “I spoke to the doctor on Thursday over the phone. He sorted out a repeat prescription that I was meant to pick up today (Monday). He has always been really helpful.

“When I head on the news about the closure I rang up expecting to hear a message about what to do about picking up my prescription. All I got was a message about that the service was being looked after by NEMS. There was no instructions about what to do.
“I phoned up the practice in Netherfield straight away and I have got to go down to sign-up tomorrow morning. Hopefully they can sort out my medication.
The patient said that staff seemed unaware of the imminent closure of the surgery in Church Street .
“He [Doctor Nyatsuro] told me to come in that day. When I said I wouldn’t be able to make it, he urged me to come in next week.”
Patients have been advised to contact either Peacock Healthcare in Carlton Hill, Park House Medical Centre on Burton Road or Netherfield Centre on Forester Street.
In a letter to patients, Sam Walters, chief officer for Nottingham North and East Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said their key priority was to ensure that all patients using Willows Medical Centre continue to have access to “high quality GP services” during this time.
She said: “Our priority is ensuring patients affected by this closure have access to high quality, safe and compassionate care.
“To enable this we will support Park House, Peacock and Netherfield to ensure they have the capacity and GP provision to meet the patients’ needs.”
No specific details have yet been given for why Willows Medical Centre has been forced to close. A report is expected next week.
