An owner has told of her heartbreak after her beloved pet cat was put to sleep after receiving brutal injuries during a suspected attack in Netherfield.
Leona Crane was forced to make the decision to have the cat put down after vets said that it would be unlikely that the animal would recover from injuries sustained during the incident.
The cat, named Princess, needed to have her tail amputated by vets and her insides were also found to be severely bruised and badly damaged.
The decision to have Princess put to sleep has left Leona devastated.
She said: “My eight-month old kitten didn’t deserve this; I’m heartbroken.”
Leona, who lives in Godfrey Street, noticed the kitten had gone missing on Saturday morning (15). She eventually reappeared later that night.
“She came in struggling and screaming in pain,” said Leona.
“We rushed her to the PDSA emergency hospital and the vets took her in that night.
“The vet rang me in morning saying that Princess needed to have her tail amputated and also told me her insides were bruised and damaged. They told me it looked like it was the result of abuse rather than being hit by a vehicle.

“I waited anxiously for hours while they carried out the surgery. Unfortunately, because the nerve ending of her tail was so damaged, she couldn’t control her bladder. She was in so much pain and urine was now leaking into her body. It would have caused infections.
“I was begging and pleading with them to just help her but they said there was nothing else they could do.
The decision was eventually made to put Princess to sleep.
Leona has now contacted the police and they are currently carrying out an investigation.
A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “Nottinghamshire Police are investigating and anyone with any information can contact us on 101 quoting incident 402 of 16 October.
Leona is urging anyone with information to contact police so they can catch those responsible.
She said: “My poor kitten cat didn’t deserve this. If anyone knows anything please contact the police”
