A new weighbridge has been opened to the public in Calverton.

The new facility, which is based at RC Tuxford Exports, in Hollinwood Lane, can now be used by the public and traders to weigh vehicles for a small fee.

It brings the total in Nottinghamshire to 14.

Weighbridges play a vital role in today’s industry, providing valuable weight data for haulage vehicles and bulk loading activities for companies.

Hauliers have to make sure that their lorries are within certain weight limits and also that containers being transported on ships have a valid weight ticket to ensure that the boats are loaded correctly to remain stable and safe.

They are also essential to industrial weighing – they can assist companies who need to take waste to landfill to ensure the weight is measured prior to time to disposal, and ensure vehicles for export are not accidently overloaded.

Councillor Glynn Gilfoyle, Committee Chairman for Community Safety, at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Public weighbridges give haulage companies the confidence to know that their vehicle weights and the goods being transported are within the law which is good for them and good for business.

“Whether companies are preparing to travel to ports in order to export goods or their fleet is travelling across the country, our network of weighbridges play their part in helping keep haulage companies on the move.”
