Gedling Borough Council planners are to consider an application submitted by Paul Hicking Associates acting as agent on behalf of Alora Restaurant Ltd. for a pavement licence at 31 Plains Road, Mapperley.

The planning application relates to a paved area in front of the former TSB bank building referring to a ‘Change of use to allow use of paved area in front of bar and restaurant for outdoor seating.’

A Design, Access and Planning (DAP) statement provided in support of the planning application states that the site comprises of an area of block paving behind the main public pavement along the frontage of the existing former TSB bank building which is currently being converted and extended as part of the change of use for the Alora bar and restaurant. This paving also extends along the frontage of the adjacent shops and café.

The DAP statement further advises formation of the outdoor seating area is proposed to be by way of self-supporting screens and landscape planters placed onto the surface of the paving to form an informal enclosure with many points of access. Tables and chairs will then be placed within this area. The screens, planters and seating are not proposed to be fixed to the pavement and therefore are not permanent and can be removed at any time. The design of the screens, planters and chairs will link with the identity of the bar and restaurant and are of a bespoke design specifically made for the Alora bar and restaurant.
