Morrisons in Netherfield offering shoppers ‘free’ cardboard boxes at tills after ‘listening to customers’

Supermarket giant Morrisons is reintroducing free cardboard crates as an alternative to the supermarket’s traditional plastic bag – or for customers who may have forgotten their own bag.

The retailer said the scheme, which is available in their Netherfield store, gives a second life to boxes that would otherwise have been recycled and comes in response to a survey where 67% of customers called for the return of the initiative.

Cardboard boxes have always been available at Morrisons stores for customers that ask, but the new move makes them more visible as a reminder for customers that may have forgotten their bag and more accessible as they are handily at all checkouts.

Morrisons customer insight director Jen Price said: “We’re continuing to make it easier for customers to shop with us so are really pleased to be bringing back our free cardboard boxes at the checkout as customers told us it was a much loved initiative”.

It is the latest initiative Morrisons has introduced in recent months to win back shoppers as part of CEO Rami Baitiéh transformation plan amid his pledges to “refresh” the grocer.

Earlier this year, the grocer introduced child-sized mini trolleys in a bid to make the shopping experience more enjoyable for younger shoppers, and in April, Morrisons extended its Quiet Hours to give customers more opportunities to experience a calmer shopping experience.
