There will be an increased police presence in Mapperley tonight after reports of a serious assault on Wednesday.
Officers were called to Pilkington Road at around 2pm after a man and a woman were reported to have been assaulted.
They were taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the man remains in a critical condition, the woman’s condition is thought to be stable and her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers have been in the area since the assault and an appeal for the public to help locate a man named Joseph Chattaway has been launched.
Police have since issued a new picture of Chattaway.
Neighbourhood Inspector Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I understand resident’s concerns as this was a shocking incident and as such, we have made sure that officers have been in the area both for reassurance and to address any worries the community may have.
“There will be officers patrolling the area this evening and I would urge anyone in the area with any concerns to speak with them or call Nottinghamshire Police on 101.
“The incident was an isolated one with all parties involved known to each other and detectives are working around the clock to establish the circumstances.”
Detective Inspector Parminder Dhillon is leading the investigation into the assault. He said: “We are keen to speak to Joseph Chattaway in connection with the incident yesterday.
“We believe that he has information that could help us with our enquiries.
“We are urging any members of the public that might see Chattaway to not approach him, but to ring 999 immediately.”
