Whether you like it or not, it’s will soon be looking a lot like Christmas around Gedling borough

Gedling Borough Council has announce the lights switch-on timetable and plans for other festive events, including Breakfast with Santa and a Christmas Market.

Here’s a round-up of what’s going on…

Arnold Christmas Market

This takes place on Nov 22 and Nov 23 in Arnold Town Centre.

The Christmas light switch on event takes place on the Friday evening from 5pm with Santa arriving on his sleigh and the Mayor of Gedling switching on the Christmas lights.

Gedling Borough Council have said the market, now in its fourth year, will have more stalls than ever, selling Christmas gifts, food and drinks. There will be a stage with entertainment for all the family to enjoy including Christmas carols, local entertainers, bands and singers performing in Eagle Square.

There will also be children’s rides and amusements to keep the little ones entertained, supplied by local events company Mellor’s Group. Arnold Methodist Church have extended the times of their Advent Fair to open on both days of the event, from 4-8pm on the Friday and 9.30am to 3.30pm on the Saturday.

The outdoor market organised by local business Button Moon is open from 12pm to 8pm on the Friday and from 11am to 5.30pm on the Saturday from Eagle Square all the way up Front Street to Croft Road.

The event this year includes an extended fun fair on Arnold Market and this will run later until 10pm on the Friday and 9pm on the Saturday.

Carlton Hill Christmas lights switch on

The lights will be switched on at 4pm on Nov 27.

The switch-on will take place in the Sensory Gardens (Garden for the Blind).

The shops will also stay open and with plenty on offer, Carlton Hill could be the place to find your perfect gift for Christmas.

Calverton Christmas lights switch on

Calverton will see the festive lights switched on at 4pm on November 30 in St Wilfred’s Square.

There will be carols, a choir and a performance by Carlton Brass Band.

Gedling Village Christmas lights switch on

The Christmas lights switch on in Gedling Village will take place on Friday, November 29th, with people being asked to gather at the corner of Willow Lane for 6pm.

The Mayor of Gedling will be attending and Santa is also expected to make an appearance.

Refreshments are being served afterwards at All Hallows Church, where the AlL Hallows School Choir will be singing carols.

Lambley Christmas lights switch on

The Christmas lights will be switched on in Lambley on Sunday, December 1 at 6pm. The switch on ceremony will take place on the corner of Catfoot Lane and Main Street Corner.

Mince pies and mulled wine is being provided by Lambley Women’s Institute and there will be carols around the tree.

Mapperley Top Christmas lights switch on

The switch on takes place at 4.45pm on Nov 28 on Plains Road in Mapperley Town Centre.

Netherfield Christmas lights switch on

Netherfield’s lights will be switched on at 4.40pm on November 29.

The event starts at 4pm and includes performances from Burton Joyce Training Band and Netherfield Primary School Choir.

The Mayor will be switching the lights on at 4.40pm and Santa will be visiting on his sleigh

Ravenshead Christmas lights switch on

The festive lights will be switched on in the village on Saturday, December 7.

A lantern parade will leave The Sherwood Ranger at 4.30pm. The lights will be then switched on at 5pm.

Santas Grotto will be open from 5.05pm-7pm and there will also be a carol concert at the village hall.

Breakfast with Santa

Join Santa for a special breakfast at Gedling Country Park between December 7 and December 22 at Cafe 1899 in the country park.

Cafe 1899 are now taking bookings for the event, either pop into the cafe or call 0115 926 1388 to book a place. Tickets cost £9.50 each – full payment taken at time of booking.

The event includes joining Santa for a breakfast party with breakfast box and present.

Children will be able to write their letter to Santa and post it in the special post box, where the elves will whisk it of to the North Pole and have a reply ready before they leave.

All children must be accompanied by an adult, seating is available in the cafe for adults but not at the breakfast table other than for ticket holders.

Breakfast events take place:

8.30am – 9.30am & 10am – 11am on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 December and Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 December.

  • Although this webpage is the ‘Gedling’ eye, I can find no mention of when Gedling villages Christmas light switch on is! This information seems very hard to find!
