A Hallowe’en-themed event has been planned at Bestwood Country Park to raise money for community organisations and charities.

The themed event, which will feature a woodland monster hunt and around 30 stalls, will take place near Bestwood Lodge Hotel at Bestwood Country Park on October 27.

Gedling Borough Council says it has now given the organiser, Jolly Gardener Events, permission to run the event.

It will take place between 12pm and 4pm and more than 1,000 people are expected to attend.

The council says it hopes it will  “encourage use of the council’s parks and open spaces”.

Andrew Flynn, of Jolly Gardener Events, says entry will cost £1 and all proceeds will go towards community organisations and charities, including Men in Sheds and foodbanks.

“I started putting on events about 18 months ago, and so far raised over £3,000 for the community,” Mr Flynn said.

“The idea was to bring the community together as well as raising funds for food kitchens and other good causes.

“I work with St. Albans Parish Council, who part fund the events, and every year they grow bigger and bigger, this year will be our third event.

“Not only does it bring the community together, but it supports local businesses and raises awareness of local groups like Men in Sheds, cat rescue centres and food banks.

“This is so people know where they can find help if needed, or support these organisations, whilst having a fun day out with friends and family.

“We average over 1,000 guests per event, and although small in comparison, we are growing at a rapid rate thanks to the community and word of mouth.

“For the Halloween event this year we have over 30 craft stalls from local businesses, a children’s disco, fancy dress, a best-carved pumpkin competition, zorb balls for adults and children, two licensed bars, free gifts for all children, free arts and crafts for all children and a monster hunt in the woods.

“The area will be fully decorated, and we also have golden tickets on sale, which includes early entry for the first 100 people, with a buffet and entertainment from 12 till 1pm, then the event opens to everyone else from 1pm.”

Entry will be £1 per person.
