Two men have been jailed after they were found hiding on the roof of a warehouse in Daybrook which had been turned into a cannabis factory.
Officers had to force their way through three doors when they arrived at the premises in Edwin Street, Daybrook, at 12.20pm on February 27, 2024 to carry out a search.
A total of around 600 cannabis plants were discovered being cultivated across four rooms within the warehouse.
Officers spotted Ervis Llani, aged 20, and 27-year-old Xhuljan Stafaj on the roof.
The pair jumped from the building and ran down Edwin Street but were detained by police.
As well as the plants, lights and fans, the building contained a small living area.
Llani, of no fixed abode, and Stafaj, of Edwin Street, were each jailed for 14 months when they appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (March 28).
Both had previously pleaded guilty to producing a Class B drug.
Detective Sergeant Toni Smithurst, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We were alerted to this grow when people spotted the electricity supply was being bypassed to this building.
“This was putting neighbouring homes at risk, so I am grateful for their information which has allowed us to put this extensive cannabis factory out of action.
“Cannabis production on this scale is invariably linked to wider, organised criminality and can also create issues and dangers for people living in our communities.
“Unsuspecting neighbouring families are often put at risk by rival criminal gangs if they target the crop to steal the plants.
“Vulnerable people are also often exploited and forced by organised crime groups to stay at the properties – often in dangerous and unsanitary conditions – to tend to the plants.
“I would urge anyone who believes cannabis is being produced in their neighbourhood to get in touch. Your information could be a vital missing piece of the jigsaw which allows us to take positive action.”
